In December I started an aggressive marketing campaign for ourselves.
It immediately paid off with two new customers in the middle of December.

Analysis:

Starting in the first week of December 08 I began an aggressive SEO (Search Engine Optimization), SEM (Search Engine Marketing), blogging, and link building campaign. Very little paid advertising is being used (maybe $10 per month).

I have found that Link Building, though incredibly time consuming, pays off very quickly. For a good part of December and January I was working on increasing our rank for the term Portland Web Design in Google. After hitting my head on my solid black granite table for a while, I finally figured out what piece of the puzzle was missing. After getting 40+ inbound links, we started jumping over our competition online. Would you like similar results for your business?

On average I have spent 30 minutes per day on this, 5 days a week. Over the last 4 months that equals approximately 80 hours. If I had been charging myself our normal rate, that would have been a $5200 campaign. Interestingly enough, that $5200 led to $4158 in new sales! We are not quite at a 100% ROI, BUT the fully developed website is much better than it was in December, and I anticipate it will continue to bring in new customers. My target ROI for all customers is 200% or greater… to get that 200% I would have needed to cut my rate to $25/hr.
