Choosing the Best Email Marketing Company

There are dozens of different email marketing companies that you can choose from when you want to start an email marketing campaign.

Before you choose one, take the time to compare options are and find the right provider for your needs.  Most email service providers will offer either a free 30 day trial or the ability to send your first 500 messages for free.  Sign-up for a couple vendors and to through the test of building a campaign to see which is most intuitive and offers features you will use.

The email marketing service provider that you choose should be reliable, have the tools and features that you need, and provide you with top-rate customer service.  You might pay a little more for the features and service, but since email is already one of the cheapest forms of marketing available – as low as $10 per 1000 emails sent, minor cost differences should not be the primary reason for choosing one service provider over another.

As a seasoned email marketer I can tell you – the majority of the cost of email marketing is the cost of your time working within your service providers platform.  You will want to pay special attention to page load time and ease of use. It’s not going to be an easy decision, but you can make it less complex with a little research.  Again, make sure to sign up and try 3-5 different providers.

Email marketing companies are all created differently. Here are some basic elements to consider when it comes to choosing the right one for your needs:

  1. Providers should have very few, if any, complaints. Let’s face it: people are always going to be unhappy with something. Therefore, don’t try to find a perfect company. Try to find a company whose good outweighs their bad. If a company is small and has hundreds of complaints, move on. However, if they’re larger and only have a handful of complainers, maybe they’re worth a look.
  2. Find a provider that you can afford. Don’t look at the bottom dollar price on this one, though. Compare the costs of the email marketing service to what you are getting, so that you can get the best service for the money and not just the cheapest service. Price doesn’t tell you everything about your provider.
  3. Make sure that your provider has experience in email marketing campaigns. New companies need help getting started, too, but when you have business to do you want experienced providers. Check out their reputation and how long they have been doing this kind of work to determine whether they will be effective in helping you to succeed. You can look a companies white papers and blog to determine if they really know email marketing – not just the technical side of processing emails.
  4. Providers should have live support that is effective. Having support is one thing, but having support that works makes a big difference. Check this out so that you can get the help that you need when you need it.

These are the critical things that you should keep in mind when selecting and email marketing company. There are plenty of companies out there to choose from, and it is easier than ever to compare email service providers. However, you should be prepared to do a little digging to make sure that you find the RIGHT provider, because its important to find a platform that will help, not hurt, your marketing efforst.

The Best Email Marketing Companies

Over the years we have used all of the major email marketing service providers.  The bottom line is that you will be spending a lot of time in their software creating campaigns and measuring the results of your campaigns.  Ease of use and deliver-ability are the top two things to look for.  If your email marketing campaigns take forever to produce that will cost you money in time.  If your email marketing campaigns go right to your prospects junk box, again, you are wasting time.

The bottom line is that most peoples time is worth at least $30/hr and the cost of your email marketing service is probably going to be $75 to $150 per month, so do the math.  Don’t waste time with an email marketing service that doesn’t work quickly and effectively.

For example we have a beef with Constant Contact because its hard to implement custom code and custom templates.  If you know nothing about code and want a lot of templates, then they are great, and we would recommend them to you.  It all boils down to how you will use your email service provider’s system.

Here are our favorites. The links below will provide you with a free trial of their services, so you can see which one fits your needs.

  1. StreamSend – Easy to use, intuitive and not very expensive. They charge based on emails sent, not the size of your list. This is important for people who might send once or twice a month.
  2. Vertical Response – Great for people who need automated email blast campaign followups – where you create a email sales campaign and then send on a time delay (ex. 1 email per day for 7 days.) Vertical Response offer a great free trial, so check them out. A good choice if you plan on sending more than once a week.
  3. GetResponse – For marketers looking for an email blast service provider that provides multi-media capabilities, cross-channel tracking and email blast automation. Not quite as easy to use as StreamSend, but more features. If you want to combine email marketing with social marketing and video, GetResponse has the tools to do the job.
